The New York City Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency within New York City in Tom Clancy's The Division.
Description[]
The "New York City Police Department" is the primary law enforcement agency within New York City. The NYCP does not play a major role within The Division, however, many surviving members of the aforementioned department can be seen as part of JTF patrols or as corpses around the city. Various police vehicles can be seen parked in the streets in either good or damaged condition. There are a few police stations that are present in the game along with the Police Academy. The most notable member of the NYCP within the game is Captain Roy Benitez, a former narcotics officer in the NYCP before the outbreak and the current commander of the JTF.
Green Poison Outbreak[]
During the outbreak, the NYCP was unable to maintain public order, safety and control of New York City. there are multiple suspected factors involved with the rising crime and increased criminal activity within the city. Police officers and other emergency service personnel were not able to respond to increasing 9-1-1 calls from people who were being attacked by criminals like Rikers, and Rioters as easily, due to streets being blocked by abandoned and vandalized vehicles (which made it harder for officers to drive to active scenes), infection spreading throughout the city (Increasing sickness and most likely eventual death in the city's emergency service personnel), and even more factors to consider. After the NYCP presence dwindled, having lost control of most the city, low morale, and the eventual fall of the organized structure of the police department and other emergency services, Captain Roy Benitez formed the Joint Task Force to maintain control of the streets. However, the JTF later lost even more control of the city and became severely weakened after withdrawing its troops from the Dark Zone in Manhattan. As a result, the city turned into a death trap for it's remaining population, and a dangerous city with less law enforcement and even more criminal activities.
Lower Manhattan[]
For various reasons, many JTF Personnel in Lower Manhattan began to leave the organization, either due to lack of morale and belief in the JTF or because of the severe manpower and resource shortages the organization itself faced. These personnel, referred to now as "Peacekeepers" would later follow up with Paul Rhodes and form a new settlement called Haven located in the heart of Lower Manhattan. This included many first responders, including NYCP officers and other JTF personnel. Though there were many NYCP officers who still remained within the JTF, all of this changed when Aaron Keener, a Rogue Division Agent, began launching attacks on JTF installations in Lower Manhattan. Attacks were made on JTF bases in Castle Clinton, City Hall, and at a JTF outpost in Two Bridges. This forced surviving personnel from these installations to evacuate to Haven, where they presumably joined Paul Rhodes and his Peacekeepers. However, the current state of the NYCP and NYCP officers in other districts of New York City is currently unknown at this time.

- SWAT SUVs (model resemble the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban)
- Police APCs (seen in Wall Street mission from The Division 2)

- New York City Police (NYCP) is an alternative, fictional version of the real life New York Police Department (NYPD).
- The NYCP logo used in the game is an alternative, fictional version of the real-life NYPD logo. The real reason why the logo and the police car look different from official NYPD vehicles and logos are because, the official NYPD vehicles and logos are trademarked.
- In the Warlords of New York expansion, the livery of police cars were changed to resemble official NYPD cars more.
- It is possible that the surviving NYCP officers either joined the Joint Task Force, or are MIA, KIA, or have pulled out of Manhattan.
- If the player enters the James Farley Post Office Base of Operations in the first Tom Clancy's The Division (after progressing through a moderate portion of the game), NYCP officers will begin to spawn within the building. These officers wear seemingly standard issue uniforms more fitting with normal Police Officers instead of those adopted by ex-members who joined the JTF.
- It's hard to notice, but if you look closely, one of the police officers in the James Farley Post Office Base Of Operations has an "NYCPD" tag where the nametag of the officer would be in the real-life NYPD, this could imply that "NYCPD" was Changed to "NYCP" during the development of "Tom Clancy's The Division 2"
- The New York City Sheriff Department (NYSD) and New York State Police (NYSP) are both law enforcement agencies that operate within the city of New York but are never mentioned. Despite this, uniforms from both departments can be obtained by purchasing the Season Pass, as well as S.W.A.T. and a Motorcycle Officer's uniform.
- Warlords of New York expansion also adds a New York City Correction Department facility, but we're never seen any NYCCD members or vehicles in both games.
