Rogue watches

The red watches of Rogue Division Agents

Rogue Status is a mechanic in the Dark Zone. This mechanic punishes players who hurt, down or kill another player.

Mechanic Rules and Functions Edit

Rogue Status starts at Rank 0, as described below. Each time a NON-Rogue player is downed or killed by the player OR another player in the group, the rank increases by 1, to the max of Rank 5 (Manhunt status).

Rogue group

A group of rogue Agents.

While Rogue, the players location will occasionally pulse on every players minimap, unless the Rogue player is running the Scrambler mod on their Pulse skill. When Manhunt status is achieved, however, the location of the player is always shown to every player in a certain radius, and nothing can hide the players location.

Also of note, while Rogue, players are unable to access Dark Zone Safe Houses or DZ Checkpoints, leaving the player unable to resupply unless they lose their Rogue status or are killed and respawn. A remedy to this situation is for Rogue players to run the Banshee Gear Set, as the 4 piece bonus allows the player to resupply their ammo every 30 seconds while Rogue.

It should be noted that killing other Rogue players do NOT increase the rank of the player. Only killing non-Rogue players increase the rank.

Timers of Rogue players stop when receiving damage from non-Rogue players. This includes Manhunts, however, the timer of Manhunts do not reset to 5 minutes when killing other players.

All skills that deal damage will prioritise non-Rogue agents over NPC enemies. For instance, a player has a turret active which is attacking a cleaner NPC and there is a non-Rogue agent standing in range of the turret. The moment said player goes rogue, the turret will immediately stop attacking the cleaner and will open fire on the non-rogue agent. (This will also reset the rogue agent's timer and prevent it from counting down since the game counts this as the rogue agent being in combat despite the fact he may not be in the vicinity. Defensive skills such as Support Station, First Aid and Smart Cover will not provide their effects to non-rogue agents. (The Area of Effect of the First Aid and Support Station skill will also turn red for non-rogue agents.)

Rogue Status RanksEdit

  • Rogue Rank 0: Do enough damage to a player to harm them, or begin to hijack an extraction. The agent will get a 20-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rank 1: The agent will get a 90-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rank 2: The agent will get a 120-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rank 3: The agent will get a 160-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rank 4: The agent will get a 240-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Manhunt Rank 5: The agent will get a 300-second timer. Timer will not reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.

Rewards and PenaltiesEdit

The more players a player downs/kills the higher the player bounty will be and the more items and XP the player will lose if killed. The player will lose more Dark Zone keys, Dark Zone Credits and Dark Zone XP and have a higher chance to drop all the players contaminated loot if the player is killed as Rogue.

Rogue 2.0 Edit

In Rogue 2.0, players don't shoot other players to go rogue. Instead, they hold a button (D-pad up for PS4 & Xbox) for 5 to 10 seconds and go rogue. An icon appears above a players head during this process which is visible to all agents in sight. (Similar to how an icon appears above an NPC when they are throwing a grenade etc.) When agents go into manhunt, they will not have a timer, signaling that the manhunt target(s) will have to fight for their lives. When they manage to get to rank 5, a data station for the manhunts to end the manhunt. The time to end the manhunt depends on how large the rogues group is. The data station will be in random locations, but players will see data stations in boxes around the Dark Zone. Non Rogue agents can camp at the station and kill the manhunts before they get there. When the manhunt ends at a data station, the manhunts get manhunt caches for their victory. The rogues have to go through a longer ladder of ranks in order to get to manhunt 5.

  • Rogue Rank 0: The agent will get a 60-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players. The agent can start at rank 0 when they hold down the corresponding button.
  • Rogue Rank 1: The agent will get a 90-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rogue Rank 2: The agent will get a 120-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rogue Rank 3: The agent will get a 160-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Rogue Rank 4: The agent will get a 240-second timer. Timer will be reset if the agent attacks non Rogue players.
  • Manhunt Rank 5: The agent doesn't have a timer and a data station will appear as an objective for the manhunt target(s). The non Rogue agents will be notified in the area where the data station is. When a manhunt gets to the data station and does an interaction, the manhunt will be over.

Note: There is currently a bug in the PS4 version (unconfirmed as to if this exists on other versions) that means that rogue status does not carry over when leaving, joining or switching groups. As a result, a player can queue into a random public group, activate rogue status then leave the group or switch to a friend's group and will not retain rogue status.
